23rd Graduation and Awards Ceremony – 5th December 2017

5th December, 2017 was a proud day for Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE) as it announced the graduation of 753 graduates and most importantly its first batch of Bachelors of Engineering Honours Graduates. 39 graduands were awarded Masters Degree: 17 with Masters in Process Engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology University, India; 17 with Masters in Construction Management and 5 with Masters in Maintenance Management, both from Glasgow Caledonian University. 695 graduands were awarded Honours Degrees and 19 with Degree awards at the college’s 23rd Graduation & Awards Ceremony. The Graduation and Awards ceremony was held at the Al Hail Campus lawns.

CCE collaborates with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) in the UK, with VIT University in India and with University of South Carolina USA. Through these three partnerships, the college offers four-year degree and honours degree programmes approved by the Ministry of Higher Education. This year’s ceremony was presided over by Her Excellency Maitha Saif Majid Al - Mahrouqi, Undersecretary, Ministry of Tourism.

The Degree Awards were conferred on behalf of Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) by Dr Jeanine Gregersen – Hermans, Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice Principal International, Glasgow Caledonian University and Mr Shankar Viswanathan, Vice President, VIT University. The ceremony was graced with the presence of dignitaries, parents and well-wishers in support of the college and to recognise the achievements of this year’s college graduates.

Caledonian College of Engineering recognises exceptional student achievement and contribution to the college through a number of special awards. The Caledonian Gold Medal for Academic Excellence is the highest award bestowed by the college. It recognises the graduating student with the highest academic performance during the academic year. The Caledonian Gold Medal for Academic Excellence for the academic year 2016-2017 was awarded to Mr Maimul Islam from Mechatronics. The Late Mohamed Rashid Al Fannah Al Araimi Citizenship Award is named after one of the founding Directors of Caledonian College of Engineering. This award is bestowed to one male and one female student every year for their outstanding contribution to the college, to student life and to the general community, balanced by a strong academic performance. This year the Mohamed Rashid Al Fannah Al Araimi Citizenship Award was presented to Mr Muataz bin Musallam bin Saleh Al Mawali and to Ms Mosammat Monira Siddiqa. The Caledonian Meritorious Award, Postgraduate for the highest academic achiever at Masters Level in MSc Process Engineering was presented to Mr Hilal bin Mohammed bin Ali Al Gefiali and Mr Salim Raymarakkar Kochumon of MSc Maintenance Engineering.

Dr P Mohammad Ali, Chairman, Board of Directors, Caledonian College of Engineering in his address recorded his deep admiration and respects to His Majesty for his visionary Leadership in this Golden Era of Renaissance. He thanked and acknowledged the support and contribution of Affiliates from UK, USA and India in making Caledonian the best Engineering Institution in the country. Congratulating the graduands, he urged them to contribute significantly to the development of their community and this fertile Land.

Dr Jeanine Gregersen – Hermans, Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice Principal International, Glasgow Caledonian University in her Graduation Address touched upon the 20 years fruitful partnership of Caledonian College and Glasgow Caledonian University and the support from Ministry of Higher Education and industry partners. On behalf of the Executive Council and the Senate of Glasgow Caledonian University, Dr Gregersen - Hermens conferred upon Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Balushi, Dean Caledonian College of Engineering, Oman, an honorary Professorship for his outstanding contributions to Engineering Education in Oman and to the community.

A Caledonian degree is distinguished by the high importance given to the industrial and commercial relevance of the programmes, monitored through interaction between the college and industry. In addition to work place experience, CCE also emphasises soft skill training in all programmes, something described by the Dean, Dr Ahmed Al-Bulushi, as a unique aspect of a Caledonian degree: He emphasised on the importance of extracurricular activities in all round development of graduates and its contribution in career advancement and leadership skills. Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Balushi commended the outstanding students who brought laurels to the college by bagging national and international awards in Innovation, Research and Social and community projects making Caledonian proud. For its efforts in enhancing entrepreneurial education, Caledonian College was awarded the highest National Award from Riyada in 2016 for the best educational initiative.
