Introduction

Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE) has always given due importance to foster applied and strategic research. This is very well made clear through the mission and vision statement of the college. The research strategies of the college emerge as one of the important functions along with effective learning and teaching process. The objective of the research strategies is to create and update the research capabilities of the faculty members of the college. CCE has a strategy of staff development, by encouraging the staff to engage in research and propagate the output of research through quality publications, and participation in conferences /seminars and workshops through staff development programme. College wishes to nourish regular interaction with other institutions and industries for research and consultancy. CCE has a modest success in research performance during last four years. It includes eleven funded research projects worth of more  2.0 million USD, more than 200 research publications and 17 members of staff doing PhD supported by the college under staff development. Six members of staff already completed their PhD supported by the college. CCE has a strategy for staff development and encourages staff to engage in research and to disseminate the output of research through quality publications. Through the staff development programme, staff members may participate in conferences, seminars and workshops. The College goal is to continue to nourish regular interaction with other institutions and industries for research and consultancy.

The research planning at CCE provides the basis for research initiatives in the area of Chemical and Process Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance, Signal Processing as these are considered to be areas of strength in the College. Further, core research groups are very active in Environment and waste management, Renewable energy resources, Nanotechnology applications etc. CCE is now in the process of establishing a Research Centre in the area of renewable energy. This Centre for research is expected to support research and development activities, offer testing and consultancy, education and training with a specific focus to solar energy. The centre will have partnership with major research bodies in this field.
